BAX’s presenting season encompasses over 55 evenings of cutting edge performance, and has always been an integral part of our core work developing emerging artists. BAX views presenting and performance as part of the artist’s developmental process, and many of our performance series include artists’ commentary about their work.
BAX’s performance season features showings from our Artists In Residence and Space Grant artists and curated weekends of performance. BAX typically engages current and former artists-in-residence as curators, extending artists aesthetic investigations, creating links among artists, and building additional employment options for artists.
The Upstart Festival takes place in February. It is a showcase for emerging performing artists who have been presenting work in NYC for less than three years. Applications for Upstart are available in the fall of each year. Selected artists participate in a roundtable discussion and networking opportunity.
BAX also makes over 10 weekends per season available for self-produced performance rentals to professional dance and theater companies through our Visitor’s Program.
